![]() ![]() We believe a yorkie should be at least 12 weeks old before going to a new home. Some people might say some puppies can at that age but 12 weeks puts you past the fragile first few weeks, and past the fear/imprint period. Be wary of anyone who is selling u a yorkie under 8 weeks old. Make sure u purchase your puppy from the actual breeder not from a broker, this is called a broker, and many times puppies from a broker come from puppy mills. That would lead to puppy mills staying in business. You don’t want them puppies because they have too many problems. Pet stores that sell cats & dogs are part of the cause of puppy mills too. We don’t want that. Its not good for the animals. Don’t buy the first yorkie u see. Look around and visit several breeders, see their puppies. Ask lots of questions. Then u can make an informed decision. When u decide on a new puppy, plan to pick the puppy up on a day when u can take the new puppy straight to your vet for an exam before taking the puppy home. If something is wrong u can take it back before u get attached to it.
![]() Questions to ask when buying a puppy......... 1. Ask the breeder if they will guarantee a full refund of purchase price in writing on the bill of sale if this dog develops liver shunt, legg perthes, or congestive heart failure within the first 5 years of it’s life? 2. If a pet......how old and how many shots has this puppy received?? Has it been wormed?? 3. Do u put above guarantee in writing on the bill of sale and transfer the blue slip immediately, or do u insist on holding the blue slip until neuter spay is done?? If so, will u please put in writing that the papers will be forthcoming with no further charge as soon as this dog is neutered/spayed?? 4. Food........what kind, how much, where available? Most breeders will send a few days’ supply home w/ u till u can locate your own source. 5. Ask if the pups have been vet checked. Ask the name of the vet and call for a reference. Try to get a vet appointment in that day u pick up your puppy. You’ll be able to judge what kind of person breeder is when you meet and start asking questions. If he/she starts running scared, get the heck out of dodge. 6. Always try to see the sire and dam. Especially the dam, ask if u can hold her to see if she has any boobies. Breeder will show u a small pretty bitch and say it’s the dam and that pup hasn’t had a litter.
Before u bring your new yorkie home there are some things that u should have. Here is a list of things u might want to get, below: Collar/harness- I like to use the harness because its better for the yorkies cause they have a weak neck. Leash Food & Water dishes Toy’s
Chewing items–Booda bones, nylabones, or any other safe hard chewing treat for teething. You should avoid pig ears and rawhide chews, these can cause sever stomach problems for tiny toy dogs. Grooming tools–brush, comb, nail clippers, toothbrush. Doorway gate–to keep pup out of room’s u don’t want him in when running loose. Crate– this will keep him safe and protect your heirlooms. If you start using a crate as soon as u bring your pet home, it will be easier to house break him, and he will learn that it is a place he can go when he feels threatened. His crate should always be used as a place of living and safety, never as a source of punishment. Dog Food Treats– Only for doing good things like going potty Never leave your yorkie outside alone because birds can use them as a prey. They can pick them little ones right up. So be careful. Same as Wolves, coyote’s and other carnivorous. Make sure all medicines are kept out of their reach, what might not bother a large dog can certainly be the demise of a toy dog. Greasy table foods can cause attacks of pancreatitis, and cause the little one to be hospitalized. Before u bring your new yorkie home there are some things that u should have.
